Show was held at Ken Rock Community Center Rockford, IL.  Complete details are below.

A set of club By-Laws were written by Roger Benedict and voted in by club.  Club picnic was at Sinissippi Park.  December meeting is Christmas party.  Refreshment and tool swap and etc.

This was a sad time Robert Boehm passed away on August 22, 2001.  Robert was an avid duck carver.  Robert in the past was a featured speaker for our club.

As cochairman of the Blackhawk Wood carvers show for 2001 I forward the attached information about our show.  I hope this information will be of use in your publication of events that are to occur in Illinois. Thank you for your consideration.

NEWS RELEASE

On June 10th 2001 the Blackhawk Wood Carvers will hold its 6th annual carving show. The show location is at the Kenrock Community center at 3218 11th street in Rockford Illinois, Admission to the show is free and open to the public starting at 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.  There is no show admission charge.  The show features a carvers competition with three carving levels, these being students, beginners, intermediate and advanced.  Each carving level has eleven categories into which carvings can be entered and judged. The show also features vendors who supply tools and the woods used in the carving hobby and carvers tables where each carver can display his carvings, some of displayed carvings will be for sale. There will be thirty to forty carvers and vendors who will be displaying there carvings and demonstrating there skills.  Carvers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri will participate.  In both display and sale of there carvings.

This is the sixth Blackhawk carving show the first was held in 1995, in each show the quality of the carvings has increased.  The show will display carvings of animals, birds and human figures in both realistic and stylized form.  This is a once a year opportunity to see some of the very good carvings and learn about the carving hobby from the carvers themselves.

The Blackhawk Woodcarvers were formed to promote the art of woodcarving and associated crafts through instruction, exhibitions such as the June 10th show, demonstrations and workshops.  There are 65 members in the Blackhawk club, most of these members are from Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Iowa.  Many of the club members share their knowledge, experience and give there time and talents to the club programs.  Visit our show and talk with these people and see first hand there many creative carvings.
