Qualification Standards for Awards
1.
ORIGINALITY Interpretation of the subject that
originates from a creative idea or vision. Some examples, but not limited to,
are 1) identified with your personality and/or interest,
2) unique application
of wood, 3) something never done before as not a copy of prior art,
4) unique
carving style having an unusual tool patina.
2. SKILLED EXECUTION
Visible quality of the ability to use tools having clean cuts without
fuzz, and no tool cutting errors as inappropriate residual knife or gouge
overruns. Glued blocks or panels to have tight joints. Secondary carved objects
to have proper fit-up with the basic carving.
3. SURFACE FINISH
Consistent surface preparation (blade and gouge effect, scraping, or sanding).
Blemishes of any kind are removed. Proper application of finishing materials. If
not painted, the grain should be enhanced with the finishing materials. If
painted, colors are appropriate to represent the theme.
4. COMPLEXITY
To be concerned with a high order of difficulty.
5. FINAL
PRESENTATION---Resultant
carving is properly planned to have balance and composition.
And in review of all of the above,
consideration is given to the decorative value and worthiness of the entry
