Blackhawk Woodcarvers Show

RULES OF COMPETITION

1.  The competition is open to members of the Blackhawk Woodcarvers Club. No one is restricted from joining the Blackhawk Woodcarvers Club.

2.  No fee or membership is necessary for the Youth level.

3.  Entries shall be the work of the exhibitor and carved within the last three years.  A carver can enter only one level of carving skill: youth, novice, intermediate or advanced.

4.  Power tool carving is permitted, work from a duplicating machine is not permitted.

5.  There will be no shipped-in entries except for the Two-Inch Cube Carving Challenge.

6.  All entries must remain on the judging table until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 21st.  All show entries must be entered and on the judging tables by 8:00 a.m. on August 21st. Registration for the show is on Friday, August 20th at 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, August 21st at 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m..   Pre-registration is recommended to assure table space.

7. Entry classes are per the attached sheet. Levels 

8.  There will be no entry fees returned after July 31, 2010.

9.  The judges’ determinations are final and are not subject to change.

10.  Blackhawk Woodcarvers and Tebala Shrine Temple cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage of carvings or any personal injury.

11.   Realistic means detail to the extent of closely representing the real object.

12.   Stylized means creation of form, but not necessarily the detail.

13.  Caricature means distortion or exaggeration of the distinguishing features.

14.  All entries once properly classified will be judged in that class regardless of the number of entries. There will be three awards per category: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.  Entries winning blue ribbons in this show are not eligible for entry in future Blackhawk Woodcarving shows.

15.  The judges or show committee may change any entries to a more appropriate category.

16.  The entry fee for the first entry and one display table is $10.00, and $2.00 for each additional entry. Additional tables for sales/display will be $20.00 per table. Pre-registration fees are payable up to and including the day of the show. Exhibitors may share a table. Vendor only tables are $20.00 per table. All exhibitors and entrants in the judging must be a Blackhawk Woodcarvers member; associate (non-resident) membership fees at time of show are $12.00.

17.  People’s Choice award will be given for the best carving as voted by the attendees.

18.  Best of Show, first runner up, and second runner up will be selected by the judges from the show carvings in the Advanced carving level.

19.  The Blackhawk Woodcarvers will give cash rewards of $10.00 first place winners in the advanced level, $25.00 for the people’s choice award, and $50.00, $30.00, and $20.00 for the judges choice, 1st runner up, and second runner up, respectively.

20.  Youth and novice levels will be judged in only 1.) in the round, 2.) reliefs, and 3.) miscellaneous.

21.  There will be no substitution entries for pre-registered entries.

22.   Additional entries on the day of the show will be accepted only with an additional entry form.

23.    No ribbons or awards from previous competitions are to be displayed at exhibitor's tables.
