The show location is at the Tebala Shrine Temple in Rockford, Illinois, 61108.  The show is open to the public starting at 10:30 AM until 4:00 PM. The show features a carvers competition with four carving levels, these being students, novice, intermediate and advanced. Each carving level has 14 categories into which carvings can be entered and judged.  Also, there is an open carving challenge for all carvers, the spherical carving challenge.  This is a challenge to enter a carving from a four-inch wood sphere.  Awards of $50, $30, and $20 will be given the first, second, and third place winners of this challenge.

Paul Miller, Sr. of Fox Carving from Racine, WI. will have carving tools and supplies for sale at the show.

Carvers tables where each carver can display his carvings, are available; some of the displayed carvings will be for sale. There will be thirty to forty carvers who will be displaying their carvings and demonstrating there skills. Carvers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri will participate.

This is the fifteenth Blackhawk Carving Show the first was held in 1995. In each show the quality of the carvings has increased. The show will display carvings of animals, birds and human figures in both realistic and stylized form. This is a once a year opportunity to see some of the very good carvings and learn about the carving hobby from the carvers themselves.

The Blackhawk Woodcarvers were formed to promote the art of woodcarving and associated crafts through instruction, exhibitions such as the August 15th show, demonstrations and workshops. There are 55 members in the Blackhawk club, most of these members are from Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Iowa.

Many of the club members share their knowledge, experience and give their time and talents to the club programs. Visit our show and talk with these people and see first hand their many creative carvings.
