Presidents Report
November
The “Big News” is that our club
relocated its monthly carving sessions and meetings to Peterson Meadows. The
relocation, which occurred in mid month coinciding with the monthly business
meeting and Show and Tell, went well. Well, except that Tony DeVita went to
the old location before noticing no one else was there and then joined us.
Sure glad Chuck Drewes sent out those reminders. Apparently Tony’s secretary
forgot to remind him. The following week Denny Neubauer with Richard Dunphey
and Tony DeVita brought over the wood cabinet with the power sharpening
equipment; and we fitted into a closet in our meeting room. The addition of
a new shop vacuum and some added lights from Don Stansfield and we are right
at home.
Speaking of Don, Mr. Stansfield
brought in written directions and illustrations and blanks for the
“Christmas Ornament Challege”. Everyone seem to be into working on one
except Don. I guess he wanted to “spot” us on this “Challenge”. He appears
to be giving us at least a one week head start.
We have not had anyone express
interest in our 50” LED TV. We do not have a home for it. We also have the
camera equipment. But we can find space if we elect to keep it. All are
still at the old location and need to be removed quickly.
Halloween was cold with significant
snow accumulation. I certainly did not get many “Trick or Treaters”. Perhaps
we will have a lot of candy available at the 6th of November
session. I forgot to mention that Gordy Moscinski and Don Stansfield were in
the Halloween spirit at our last October session. Gordy had a cool pumpkin
hat and Don was wearing a unique Jack O’Lantern pin he had carved.
It is Fall; but looks like Winter.
Certainly reminds us, it is nearing Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the new
year. We need to be thinking of our annual Christmas Party and Officers for
2020. Note, we do have a Nominating Committee.

Nominating Committee Formed
A Nominating Committee was formed to identify the candidates for the 2020 club officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Nominating Committee consists of Richard Dunphey, Robert Hallstrom, and Martha Fitch. If you are willing to serve in one of these positions or have a suggestion, please speak with any of the members of this Nominating Committee.
Speakers
needed at Riverside Church
Lloyd Duerst is a former member of
the Blackhawk club and would like someone to speak about carving at his
church. Last time we spoke at Wesley Willows there were 4 of us. We
could get new members this way. The church is Riverside Community
Church, 6816 North 2nd street, Loves Park, IL. It is
in the lower level. This would take place November 14th at 10:00
am with donuts at 9:30 am. Would you be able to join me on that date? Let me
know if you can. Gordy

Club TV
for sale
Our move in location of the club’s
carving and meeting sessions has prompted the extensive reduction in the
club’s property. The last item we need to liquidate within by the next
meeting is the club owned TV.
This TV was purchased new about 4
years ago, has been well keep, and has very few hours of use. We consider it
in as new condition. The TV is approximately a 50 inch rated LED TV.
We have always mounted it on a
tripod which is included if desired. We will consider all offers and
proceeds are to go to the club treasury. Please contact Tyrone Johnsen.
Club’s associated camera and all
associated equipment can also be purchased separately if desired. The camera
the club can store so it will be keep if there is no sufficient interest.
Thank you,
Tyrone Johnsen at 815-397-9274 (home
phone with answering machine) or email or any club officer
Christmas Ornament Challenge
A challenge for carving a new
Christmas ornament with a Santa on one side and a snowman on the other
side. Blanks and patterns will be available starting Wednesday,
October 30 at the club meeting for a $1.00 donation. Finished
ornaments are to be shown at the club meeting on December 18.
Thanks. Don Stansfield

Blackhawk Carving Club Minutes October 2019
Minutes of the regular monthly
business meeting of Blackhawk Woodcarvers; held on, October 16, 2019 at
Peterson Meadows, 6401 Newburg Rd, Rockford, Illinois.
The October business meeting started
late, about (9:30am) due to the late arrival of President Tyrone Johnsen
(car trouble).
The secretary Steve Terrill was
absent (later discovered ill) so the reading of the September meeting
minutes were dispensed with. Tyrone tried so summarize points of the Sept
meeting memory. Unfortunately, we failed to realize no one was taking
minutes of this meeting.
Treasurer Larry Stenzel gave the
monthly finance report; and we remain in great shape.
Membership chair Chuck Drewes
reminded us to pay our 2020 dues.
Later Larry Stenzel took some rough
notes as follows:
Nominating committee formed and
announced.
Elections upcoming.
Recognizing people who helped with
the move*.
Christmas party volunteers needed.
What to do with the TV and video
equipment.
Gary Meyer has dust collector,
Dremel, etc., to sell because he’s moving.
Show and tell with displayed
carvings by Bob Matthews, Tony DeVita, Tyrone Johnsen, Jim Foster,
Jerome Mais, and Larry Stenzel.
*Gary’s motion: Recognize the people
who made the move possible. Tyrone spent a lot of time recognizing our
long history at Ken Rock – since the founding. Bob Mathews, Denny
Neubauer, Don Stansfield, Bob Hallstrom, and Dick Dunphey spent a lot of
time searching for a new place. Which eventually culminated in our
relocation to Peterson Meadows. We’re very thankful for all those
efforts. Motion seconded by Roger Benedict and passed unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned for show
and tell.
Respectfully Submitted: Larry Stenzel and Tyrone Johnsen
