The Blackhawk Woodcarvers was founded in 1993 to bring local and area carvers together. They formed a group that could trade tips, share their experiences, and just whittle and talk about carving. Today, the Blackhawk Woodcarvers have a membership of men and women whose skills cover the entire spectrum of the craft, from chip, characters, abstract and relief carving. The club is open to all carvers, at all skill levels, including those with no carving experience at all. Equipment can be as simple as a pocketknife to the more sophisticated power tools. The goal of the Blackhawk Woodcarvers is to preserve and encourage continued growth in the art and craft of carving. Club activities include seminars, workshops and "hands- on" carving every Wednesday at 9:00 am until 11:30 am.
We will meet every Wednesday
at 9:00 am until 11:30 at Ken Rock’s new facility at 625
Adams Street, Rockford, IL.
At our meetings, carvers often bring in work they have finished. We all get to see and appreciate their results. Friends and spouses of carvers are especially welcome to visit and meet carvers.
The clubs resources include:
• A small how-to video library and books covering many carving styles and carving projects.
• Classes and demonstrations by carvers in the Midwest area (including our own members) on the various techniques in the world of carving. • A grinder/polisher for your use.
If you carve, or would like to learn, now is the time to visit the Blackhawk Woodcarvers Club.
Feel free to check us out before joining. A year membership is only $ 25.00.
