Presidents Report  February 2024

Winter finally arrived in Rockford, IL. Due to concerns about the weather and safety of our members, one weekly session was canceled. We did have snow and cold; but the slippery walking conditions are often of most concern.

We did hold our monthly business meeting. We only had seven members in attendance along with one visitor. I did present Initiatives for 2024 which should be recorded in the meeting minutes in this newsletter. Unfortunately we postponed the program planned until March due to the poor weather.

Remember that Gordy Moscinski will be teaching a class on Beginning Woodcarving starting the 14th of February and running for five weeks. These classes will be held at Ken-Rock during our weekly carving sessions. These classes are through Rock Valley College’s Center for Learning in Retirement.

Unfortunately, the CLR paper catalog has not gone out yet and attendance will probably suffer. Please help spread the work to anyone you think may be interested. Details are also probably found in this newsletter.

Our February business meeting and Show & Tell will occur on the 21st which will also be the second session of Gordy’s Beginning Woodcarving class. For this reason, I hope to keep the business meeting as short as possible and I do not plan on introducing any new business. On the other hand, I want to encourage all members to bring carvings for Show & Tell!

Tyrone Johnsen – 3 Feb 2024

Secretary report for January 2024

The meeting was called to order by president Tyrone Johnsen at 9:30am with 7 members and 1 guest present.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by secretary Jim Foster, no corrections were needed.

Treasure Larry Stenzel reported the club finances are solvent and stable. He noted there are a few members who have not paid 2024 dues yet.

Web Master Gordy Moscinski noted the cost of the website has increased slightly, he also added the buy/sell section is available for all members and works well.

It was noted that Gordy will be teaching a Beginning Carving class through CLR at the Ken Rock facility. It will begin February 14th and continue for 5 weeks.

Tyrone discussed many ideas to maximize our club exposure and attract new members.

Vice-president Richard Brittnacker presented and discussed the show and tell items by Gordy Moscinski and Larry Stenzel.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:20am.

Respectfully submitted by Jim Foster
