The Blackhawk Woodcarver
Normal weekly carving sessions will
continue as usual on every Wednesday morning starting at 9:00 am. Be aware
that we maybe meeting in the gym during the summer school vacation period.
During the summer, Ken-Rock has youth care and activities; and maybe using
the larger room where we normally meet. Please note and exercise additional
caution as there are surface (vertical height) changes entering the gym area
which may cause a person to trip!
Our monthly club business meeting
will be held at our normal scheduled date of the third Wednesday of the
month (17th of June) starting at our normal scheduled time of
9:30 am. Immediately following will be our Show & Tell as normal.
Last month we discussed the annual
picnic; and we had enough interest expressed to continue it. The date is the
4th Wednesday of June ( the 24th). Start time favored was 11:00
am. The location will again be Sinnissippi Park in the area of Shelters 1 &
2. We will not reserve a shelter due to excessive charge. We will use a
shelter if they are not reserved or occupied. The picnic is open to all
members and their spouse, family, and close friends. The club will not be
providing any food, drink, or supplies. Those attending the carving session
at Ken-Rock that morning will move to Sinnissippi Park just before 11:00 am
if they wish to join the picnic. In case of rain or bad weather, we can eat
our picnic meal at Ken-Rock.

Business Meeting Minutes
Meeting called to order by Tyrone
Johnsen at 9:33 am with 22 in attendance.
Secretary April Minutes were read by
Roger Benedict and approved
Treasurer Report by Betty Gregory
reporting adequate operating capital. She welcomed new
member, Dave Suedbeck, which brings our membership to 42.
President Report by Tyrone Johnsen
reminded that treasury actual dollars are not for public use nor publication
such as in the newsletter. Meanwhile dollars continue to
be under control by the treasurer’s ledger. Analysis continues with
variations of budget balances based on annual activities and those budget
variations from year to year.
We have a good relationship with the
Janesville carving club, and it is important to maintain this in the future.
To continue promoting our club we will have at least one table at their
September carving show.
Old Business, None, except to
mention good attendance for Tom Houlahan’s chip carving class, and
good-looking carvings were noticed.
New Business, A picnic was brought
up by Tyrone and a discussion followed about various aspects of the picnic.
Comments were made about having an interest in a picnic, where to
have it, when scheduled, and content of the picnic.
Sixteen members showed an interest in having the picnic where further
discussions picked the date of Wednesday June 24th at 11pm.
Tyrone stated the picnic will remain at Sinnissippi Park.
More picnic information will obviously be available.
We were reminded that our club
officer elections are this November.
Christmas party is all set and same
format as last year. More information later.
Adjourned at 10:00am
and approved
Show & Tell, An
excellent group of woodcarvings displayed by eight carvers.
The assortment covered chip carvings, duck, dogs, peaking bird from
bird house, candles, fishing lures, painted panels of butterflies, and
pencil-burned wood panels. Very creative with skilled
workmanship!
Respectfully submitted, Roger

Say Farewell
to A Good Friend and Member
Don Stansfield will be leaving us in
late June to be with his family in the Seattle Area. Mark your calendars on
Wednesday June17th for cheering Don on for his many successful years with us
and his new chapter of life.
In his early life he tinkered with
Woodcarving and with the birth of the Blackhawk Woodcarvers in January 1994
he became an active member with steady volunteering and teaching.
Don loved to introduce new and unique carving challenges to the
membership for monthly Show & Tell; usually, they were related to a national
historic or a profond calendar event. Always, his
carvings were immaculate clean and carved smoothly with the beauty of
painting.
Have a “tale” about Don for letting
him know what we will miss with his leaving the carving club---humor goes a
long way when saying goodbye. Don hails from Southern
Illinois with vocations in teaching and employment at Menards.
From all of us, let’s give Don a
memorable send off.
