Minutes (in brief)
 
Hey There Black Hawk Wood Carver’s. Feb.20th Meeting.
Mr. Bob Coleman Opened the meeting at 9 a.m. sharp.
Arne Larsen read the minutes for the January 16 meeting.
Arne thanked Mr. Bob Matthews for the feather carving class he held for us.
Arne reminded us that Marshal Field has had chemotherapy and would appreciate a call from us.
Don Stansfield talked about the 3 and 3 drawing contest.
Don also commented on Larry Clark bringing in a notice that Peter Engler, a great woodcarver from Branson MO died last week. Don talked about what a great carver he was. He had a great shop with carvings from many great carvers. Don brought in both carvings and castings of Peter’s carvings.
Donna Wisner gave her petty cash report for January. The report was approved.
John Skaggs gave his Treasurers report. The report was approved.
Roger Benedict had a relief carving he’d done. And he also explained he is having a classes at CLR on March 13th.
Chuck Drewes gave his report on new members. There are no new members since the last meeting.
Steve Terrill introduced a visitor Mike Sabo who is interested in carving.
Gordy Moscinski. gave his report on our web site. And told everyone to be sure and let him know on changes or occurrences so he can get them on the web. Gordy is also starting a new Class at C L R.
Rosalie Wesley talked about a Maquoketa, Iowa Carving show. And said that they pass out calling cards and thought it may work for us to have cards announcing our show.
Don Stansfield suggested that we need a person in charge of publicity for the annual show. He suggested that volunteers contact the President.
Roger Benedict announced that he would be conducting his annual tour of the Rockford Art Museum sometime in March or the first week in April.
Bob announced that he has information on “Artistry in Wood”. A show at Cantigny Park 1S 151 Winfield Rd. Wheaton , Ill.
There was a vote on the officers nominated for the Blackhawk woodcarvers on Nov 21st 2012, for the calendar year 2013. This was done because there was no record in the minutes of electing the officers. The officers were voted into office by a unanimous vote.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:23.

Show and Tell
Our show and tell went great this time.

      Larry Christensen finished a great cane he’d been at for awhile. And he also did a feather in Bob’s class that was neat too.


















    Bunny Nordheim did 2 really nice feathers from the class as well as 2 small Blue jay feathers. She also did a nice pumpkin cage with a candy inside which she gold leafed. And 2 nice bark carvings when she ran out of energy to carve her feather.
 
  Louie Jurisch did a Mobius Strip and a Moravian (eight sided) Star

Frank Lay did a flower out of Myrtle Wood and a plaque

Tony DeVita did a nice mini Santa while sitting by Denny styled after Denny’s little people.

       
Gale Terrell’s fishing lures were done for his grandson in Florida they’re going to see soon. He also did a German 8 point star Christmas ornament. He also showed a pumpkin house bark carving with a black cat.

  Richard Prutz did a cool Kona coffee inlay and A pocket’s man.

Roger Benedict did an inlay of a cabin he carved for a friend with a frame made of wood from his land.
 
  Arne Larsen brought in a rabbit he cut out with a bandsaw.

     Bob Matthews did a small Eagle carving between 1/8 and 3/8 size. He also did a Cypress Knee Santa carving.

  Tod Wisner Did a nice carving of a Swede Boy going fishing with his dog with him after a Harley Refsal design.

  Will Rottman did a Madonna and child with father.

  Bernie Budzynski made a colored woodburning of a pair of owls in a barn and a candy treat jar with stand.

  Diana Johnson did a feather in Bob’s class. She also did two imaginative characters out of Cottonwood Bark.

Contest
“3 and 3” Carving Drawing
Club members are encouraged to participate in the club’s monthly SHOW AND TELL and in the club’s ANNUAL WOODCARVING COMPETITION in August.
There will be a drawing for prizes for club members who have different carvings in SHOW AND TELL at least three (3) months from January 2013 through July 2013, enter carvings in at least three (3) Competition Categories at the 19th ANNUAL WOODCARVING COMPETITION in August 2013, and are awarded at least one (1) First, Second, or Third place in the competition. Any member who fulfills these criteria but enters in at least six (6) Competition Categories in the August show will have his/her name placed twice in the drawing. (A person can only win one prize in the drawing.) Categories are the same as listed in the ANNUAL WOOD-CARVING COMPETITION
